What is Casting Couch? It’s just coming out of a holiday weekend, so it doesn’t have all that much casting news at the moment. But how about we put all of the actors we’re reporting on in stylish sunglasses to celebrate the kickoff of the summer season?
It would be pretty hard to argue that Marvel Studios’ recent slate of interconnected superhero movies hasn’t been a huge success. Marvel movies have pleased longtime fans, cultivated a generation of new fans, and made gobs and gobs of money. Everyone knows that you’re not truly a success in the movie business until you’ve worked with John C. Reilly though, so Hitfix is reporting that the studio is currently trying to get the living legend on board one of their upcoming projects. Apparently an offer has gone out for him to play Rhomann Dey in Guardians of the Galaxy. Things are a bit more confusing than that though, because while Dey was an alien member of the intergalactic Nova Corps in the comic books, apparently in the movie world he’s going to be a human agent of SHIELD who works as the liaison between the organization and this new team of space heroes. Weird.
According to a report from THR, The Weinstein Company has just acquired the US rights to an adaptation of a Patricia Highsmith novel called Carol. So far they’ve got I’m Not There director Todd Haynes set to helm and Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska signed on to play the two leads of the film, which should probably earn them quite a bit of attention, because Carol is a tale of a lesbian romance that takes place in 1950’s New York. Wasikowska will be playing a girl who works in a department store and who has big dreams, and Blanchett an older woman in a loveless marriage who has largely had all of her dreams crushed. Despite the fact that they’re in different situations, a connection is made. Could this be a sign that we’re about to see a whole trend of movies about lesbian romances being developed now that Blue is the Warmest Colour has done so well at Cannes? Hopefully.
Which big Hollywood starlet could you see getting the title role in a biopic about Hillary Clinton? Kind of a broad question, right? There are so many strong actresses out there right now that it’s tough to narrow it down. But thankfully the producers of an upcoming movie called Rodham have done much of the work and narrowed it down for us. Rodham is said to be a story that focuses on the period of Clinton’s life when she was a lawyer in 1974, and it’s slated to be released somewhere around the 2016 election. In order to bring the likely Presidential Candidate to life, The Independent is reporting that the film is going to employ the talents of either Scarlett Johansson, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Chastain, or Reese Witherspoon. All are very talented and very famous, and all are reportedly being looked at very closely. What do you think? Who would wear the pantsuit best?
