What is Casting Couch? It’s the casting news column that’s actually going to go a day without reporting on any Veronica Mars confirmations. It does have some news about Cillian Murphy though.

It seems like Tim Burton’s next project, Big Eyes, is finally seeing him break away from his usual stable of actors in order to work with interesting names he doesn’t have any experience with. For everyone other than the biggest fans of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter wearing silly wigs, that’s go to be seen as good news. Especially when the names he’s recruiting are exciting as Jason Schwartzman, who The Wrap is reporting has joined the film as a San Francisco art gallery owner named Ruben. Everyone loves Jason Schwartzman, so add him to a cast that already includes Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz, and there starts to be so much love going around that we’re going to have to worry about how to contain it.dashes

Danny Huston

Danny Huston

One actor who probably doesn’t get enough love is Danny Huston, as he consistently does phenomenal work, but is still thought of as being one of those “that guy” character actors who regular folk can’t name. Heck, sometimes when I see him I still think he’s Anthony Bourdain for a second. So Deadline’s news that he’s also joining the cast of Big Eyes has to be seen as something to celebrate about, because at this point he’s proven that any opportunity he gets to win over new fans is an opportunity he’s going to make the most of. Oh yeah, Big Eyes, by the way, is a biopic of famous painter Margaret Keane (Adams) and her meddling husband Walter (Waltz), and it will apparently see Huston playing a gossip columnist named Dick Nolan.dashes

Sarah Lancaster

Sarah Lancaster

The part of Robert Downey Jr.’s ex-wife has finally been cast in that dark comedy about murder and going back to your home town he’s doing, The Judge, and according to THR, the lady director David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) has settled on for the role is Sarah Lancaster. You probably know her from being completely stunning, as well as for her work on Chuck. She’s the latest to join a cast that already includes names like Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, Vincent D’Onofrio, Leighton Meester, Dax Shepard and Billy Bob Thornton. So yeah, The Judge isn’t going to be anything to sneeze at.dashes

Cillian Murphy

Cillian Murphy

Remember that movie Ron Howard is doing, called In the Heart of the Sea? It’s the one about the sinking of the Essex, which is the horrifying incident that inspired Herman Melville to write “Moby Dick” and also taught us all to fear sperm whale. Well, Deadline is reporting that Howard has found the third member of his version of the Essex’s crew, and that man is Cillian Murphy. He’ll be joining Benjamin Walker, who’s playing the wet behind the ears Captain of the doomed ship, as well as Chris Hemsworth, who seems to be the hero of the story, and from the sound of things the character he’s playing is going to be Hemsworth’s right hand man. This should be a nice change of pace from all the roles he’s been taking lately, where generally he plays the creepy leering guy with the haunting eyes.
