Casting Couch: Crowe Wants Cooper, Pfister Wants Bale, Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke Might Team Up, More

Bradley Cooper and American Sniper

What is Casting Couch? It’s a daily movie news column that that wants to make you a star, baby.

Filmmaker Cameron Crowe hasn’t said much about his next project. We don’t yet have a title or a plot synopsis for it. But what we do know is that it’s said to be similar in tone to things like Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire, and it’s got Emma Stone playing a lead role (and it might just be a rewrite of his Deep Tiki script from years ago). So basically, expect something that lines up with Crowe’s best work and stars one of your favorite actresses. Sounds great. The new news regarding the project is that Crowe is reportedly close to finding his male lead. Deadline Hollywood says that he has his eye on Bradley Cooper, and he’s close to making a deal happen. Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone in a Cameron Crowe movie? Yeah, that should be enough to get the attention of every person of every gender and sexuality ever.

Remember how we reported that Christopher Nolan’s regular DP, Wally Pfister, is going to be directing his first movie, it’s going to be called Transcendence, and it’s going to star Johnny Depp? Well, all of that stuff is still true, but the L.A. Times has dug up even more information. Turns out the film is actually going to have three leads, and Pfister is very game to get Christian Bale to sign on as number two of the three. Anyone out there want to see Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in the same movie? Yeah, probably a lot of people. This one is definitely a project worth watching.

What is Rob the Mob? It’s a new crime movie from screenwriter Jonathan Fernandez and director Raymond De Felitta about a Bonnie and Clyde-like couple who launch a series of heists where they rob the New York mob. Why is it on the radar? Because Deadline Hollywood caught word that De Felitta has just cast Michael Pitt and Nina Arianda as his criminal couple. Arianda is a relative newcomer to the film business, but she’s notable because she won a Tony for her stage role in Venus in Fur, and Michael Pitt, well, hell… you know who he is. He’s that guy from Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Boardwalk Empire. The one with the pretty face who’s awesome.

Shameless actress Emmy Rossum has a new job. Coming Soon reports that she’ll be starring in You’re Not You, an adaptation of a Michelle Wildgen novel that’s going to be helmed by Nights in Rodanthe director George C. Wolfe. Rossum will be playing the caretaker of a polio suffering character played by the already-cast Hilary Swank. This all sounds like chick stuff, but, you know, some people are into that.

Did you ever think you’d see Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke starring in the same movie together? Well, you will, Deadline got the scoop, and the project that’s making this dream a reality sounds crazy. It’s called Getaway, and it sounds like some sort of Drive knockoff where Hawke plays a stunt driver turned getaway driver who has to save his kidnapped wife from evil Jon Voight along with the help of–get this—a hacker played by Selena Gomez. A hacker played by Selena Gomez. That’s enough to sell the entire movie right there.

Do you think it would be a good idea to get Liv Tyler, Matt Bomer, Patrick Wilson, and Marisa Coughlan together for a low budget sci-fi comedy? Well, writer/director Jack Plotnick certainly hopes you do, because he’s already shot it. THR says that the movie is called Space Station 76, and though it takes place on a space station in the future, Plotnick’s vision of the future is closer to how people pictured future tech in the ’70s than it is how people picture the future now. That could be retro fun if Plotnick has an eye for production design; which he’s definitely going to need to have, because if nobody even realized he was making this thing, it must have a really, really small budget. Crazy.

Big news regarding Eli Roth‘s upcoming cannibals in the jungle horror movie The Green Inferno: Variety is reporting that he’s found his cast. Apparently Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Aaron Burns, Daryl Sabara, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Magda Apanowicz, and Sky Ferreria are the folks who he’ll be sending out into the jungle to get eaten. Who are they? Just low level acting people, but they could become infamous soon, because it sounds like Roth plans on getting all crazy and forcing them to work in some fairly dangerous conditions. When talking to Movieline about the project, he said, “The location that we found is truly spectacular. It’s so far up the Amazon, no one has ever shot there. The last person anywhere near there was Werner Herzog for Aguirre, the Wrath of God.” Yeah, that’s right, Roth is getting Herzog crazy. Some of these actors could be coming back missing limbs.
