Nothing says “a sequel is coming” like a little posturing. That’s exactly what’s coming from producer Jerry Bruckheimer this weekend as he junkets for his next film The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. While talking about the Jake Gyllenhaal-led parkour and sandals flick, Coming Soon was kind enough to ask about the development of Bad Boys 3, a project that would reunite Bruckheimer with director Michael Bay and stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

“It’s a wish and a hope and a dream,” said the mega-producer. “We’ve been working on a screenplay, which is excellent. It’s an idea Will gave us, so hopefully, it will come to fruition, we would love it to.”

So, you’re saying there’s a chance. The screenplay is currently in the hands of Peter Craig, who was hired in August 2009. The project would presumably begin once Bay is finished with Transformers 3, which is about to begin shooting; and once Smith is done with work on Men in Black III, which is headed into production later this year. That timetable could put a third round of Bad Boys in the mix for the already pants-wetting Summer 2012. And that would be quite a treat, indeed.
