The last two weeks have been flooded with rumors and hearsay about Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming film X-Men: First Class. The gates were opened just after Vaughn signed onto the project and began hunting for talent to fill his young mutant story. The latest centers around Amber Heard (Zombieland, Pineapple Express) and the character of Mystique.
This news comes from Thursday’s issue of Production Weekly, which lists Heard as “in talks” for the role, which was played in the first two X-Men films by Rebecca Romijn-Stamos.
I hope that Mystique fans don’t take offense to this, but it doesn’t really matter who plays the character in this next film. Amber Heard is a decent actress who has made a few good (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Pineapple Express) and at least one very bad (The Informers) movie. She’s got the build for a character like Mystique, and that’s all you need. Remember Rebecca Romijn-Stamos? Not much of an actress. But that suit and the effects around her were spectacular, which made the character interesting. The same would be true here for Heard. I rest on my indifference.
What do you think of Amber Heard as a young Mystique?
