While sitting with Alex Proyas, director of Summit Entertainment’s upcoming film Knowing, we received a nice little tidbit. When asked about what he is working on next, he said it would be a film titled Dracula: Year Zero.

Now I’m sure most of you will be questioning the necessity of another Dracula movie. Don’t worry, I did too. However when Proyas was asked how this project would be different from say 1992’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula, he said that Dracula: Year Zero will be a “medieval epic.” Now if you ask me, that actually does sound cool. Anyone who is a vampire/Dracula nut can tell you that the historical beginnings of the legend started with a man named Vlad “The Impaler” Dracula.

Some might say that the Gary Oldman film was enough as far as an origin story goes. I on the other hand, would love to see an all out Transylvanian epic, that features Vlad in combat and dealing with his opposition. This might or might not be what we end up with, but it would undoubtedly be cool. There is no news as to what studio might be handling the film, casting or release date. Keep your eyes on FilmSchoolRejects and we will be sure to bring you the goods as they unfold.

What do you think of Alex Proyas directing Dracula: Year Zero?
