Jeremy Renner Hawkeye

When are you people going to learn? And by “you people,” I of course have no idea who I’m talking to here. We all know that rumors about The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner playing Clint Barton, also known as Hawkeye, in the Joss Whedon directed team-up film The Avengers.

Despite the fact that we all know this, Heat Vision is reporting it again. This time, they are using terms like “in final negotiations” to describe the actor’s involvement with the project, which is due to hit theaters in 2012. While Marvel would not confirm any of this, it goes without saying that Renner has been in the running for months. And with Joss Whedon in place as writer and director, casting of roles outside of those already established with other films is likely to begin.

Why so soon? You may ask. Because if Marvel wants to keep a level of continuity and intermingling of franchises — something they showed with fervor in their Avengers sub-plot of Iron Man 2 — they will need to secure talent soon. The timing of this news comes as both Captain America and Thor are in production, making the appearance of Hawkeye in either movie more likely. Especially considering the fact that Whedon was brought in to work on the script for Captain America as well. The connections are too obvious not to make.
