Hello Friends of Frank! Just recently we brought you the news that at San Diego Comic-Con Tom Jane, Tim Bradstreet, and the RAW Studios crew sent a room full of Punisher fans into a tizzy when they screened a short film about a bad ass stranger cleaning up the streets – only to have it revealed that said stranger was Frank Castle, The Punisher!
Telling you about it was one thing, but how would you like to actually see it? You’re in luck, true believer, because we’ve managed to get a hold of the video and you can check it out right here, right now: likely for a limited time, so act fast!
“I wanted to make a fan film for a character I’ve always loved and believed in – a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It’s been a blast to be a part of from start to finish — we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.” — Thomas Jane
What did you think about that? Ron Perlman brought a lot of character to that small role, while Jane proves he’s still got the moves to bust skulls as Frank Castle. Now that is some punishment! The viciousness within is exactly what I expect from the character and I’m glad to see it. The skull you see on the shirt is also the first glimpse we’ve got of Tim Bradstreet’s new design for the iconic character, so go ahead and watch the video a second time.
Every time we talk about The Punisher, we’re dumbfounded that he hasn’t had a truly great movie yet. The Dolph Lundgren bomb was an affront to the character. Tom Jane’s original dance with Castle was good, though it spent too long in setting up the character – we only got to see the Punisher punish in the last 15 minutes, but those 15 minutes were awesome. Punisher: War Zone got the violence right, but kind of came off silly in the style department when trying to emulate the color scheme of the books and ultimately wasn’t very compelling. Plus, it had parkour in it, which is absolutely stupid and unforgivable.
What do we want in a Punisher movie? It’s simple. We want Frank Castle. We want punishment. We want hard R-Rated violence, a strong character, and a good story. It’s simple math. You take the character from The Punisher (2004), the violence of Punisher: War Zone (2008), and a great story from the comic books.
Can we make this happen? Marvel? Please? You got the rights back to Castle in 2011. We need a balls out Punisher movie.
Until we get that, comic creators and super fans Tom Jane, Tim Bradstreet, and director Phil Joanou have given us this cool short film. So talk about it, share it: call it #DirtyLaundry and identify yourself as a #FriendsofFrank member and show your support for this classic Marvel character.
