Why Watch? An elderly man struggles to shuffle home, he feeds a cat before petting him sweetly, and then he unwraps his turban to reveal what’s been done to him.
This short film from Yaz Rabadi is shot gorgeously even though its subject matter is grisly and slightly difficult to watch. With crisp visuals, the harshness is delivered without flinching or prying the act from a pedestal. Raw and crystal clear, it leaves us and the old man with a stark decision: to compromise who we are and what we believe in for a sliver of safety, or to face the next day bruised but ready for the hardness of scar tissue.
Naturally it’s made all the more harrowing because of its echo in the real world. This movie is fiction, but the story it’s sharing is not.
