Hold Your Breath

Why Watch? Duncan (Timothy Marc Sayles) has a terrific fear of water, and by the end of this charmingly demented short from writer Elliot Brady and co-writer/director Charles Aksel Kleven, he’ll make a bold attempt to conquer that suffocating, moist terror. To do so, he’s hired a disgraced former champion (Kerry Everett) to push his limits in the kidney shaped pool.

Charting neatly alongside Guest-style mockumentaries, the story here wins with a unique concept executed by a sweetly inept character. Its Duncan’s awareness of the camera and childlike nature that anchor the dry humor against the oncoming tide of ridiculousness. Sayles and Everett make a solid misfit pairing, and the lengths they achieve in painting her character as callous are a triumph of simple (yet effective) dark comedy.

Imagine what this team could do with more than 48 hours.

What Will It Cost? About 7 minutes.
